Google Pixel 5 release date: Leaked specs lack 120Hz refresh rate; improvements include 8GB RAM, 4K60 video mode, and 4,000mAh battery
Google Pixel 5 is the next smartphone to be unveiled during the busy fall season across the tech industry. However, even before Google officially unveils the device, the supposed specs sheet has been leaked leaving virtually nothing to the imagination.
Google Pixel 5 specs: Reputable leaker unveils specs sheet
Every year, upcoming Google Pixel models are some of the most leak-prone devices. With the Pixel 5 launching very soon, expect more information to emerge online.
Such was the case with WinFuture’s latest report on Pixel 5 that unveils the supposed leaked specs sheet of the upcoming device. The maximum display refresh rate capacity is possibly one of the most anticipated information about the smartphone. Unfortunately, the report adds to the pieces of pre-launch information that indicate its display will not support 120Hz refresh rate. Pixel 5 is expected to have a 6-inch OLED display, 2340 x 1080 pixels, 90Hz refresh rate, and always-on feature,
On the bright side, Pixel 5 is still expected to sport several improvements from its predecessor. For one, its standard RAM capacity will reportedly increase to 8GB from 6GB. It appears that there will be no XL version this year, so the Pixel 5 will sport quite a large battery with a 4,080mAh capacity.
Google is not adding more sensors this year as the Pixel 5 is reported to have two cameras on the back composed of a 16MP ultra-wide lens and another 12.2MP lens. For selfies, the smartphone will be equipped with an 8MP camera on the front. One of the biggest camera improvements for Pixel 5 is the addition of 4K60 video mode, according to the same report.
This is not the first report or leaked information to mention that Pixel 5 will not be powered by a chipset from the Snapdragon 8 series, aka the SoC for flagships. The leaked specs indicate that the smartphone will be equipped with the premium mid-range chip Snapdragon 765G, which supports 5G. This is a first for Google since it launched the Pixel smartphone line, and it is going to be interesting how they will explain this (if they would) once the smartphone is officially announced.
Google Pixel 5 release date set earlier than expected
As for the official launch of Pixel 5, Google has announced it is hosting a Made by Google event called Launch Night In on Wednesday, Sept. 30, at 11 a.m. Pacific Time. Tech fans can tune in to the product unveiling through the event’s official website.
