Android 12 beta is live; check out the eligible devices and how to sign up
The official presentation of the Android 12 updates was one of the main events on the first day of Google I/O on Tuesday. Just as expected, the start of beta testing was announced at the opening of the conference and Google has now revealed all the Android devices currently eligible to test the next version of the mobile operating system.
Google lists eligible devices for Android 12 beta
Considering how many Android phones are out there in the market, the list of eligible devices for the first Android 12 beta is quite short. And the Pixel phone lineup understandably has the most expansive offer when it comes to compatibility with the early testing of the OS update.
Pixel 3 and all later models (up to Pixel 5), including Pixel a series phones, can all be used for the Android 12 beta. Aside from Google, there are 10 other smartphone makers with devices eligible for the early preview, such as the recently announced Asus Zenfone 8.
Other confirmed eligible devices for Android 12 beta include OnePlus 9/9 Pro, Oppo Find X3 Pro, Tecno Camon 17, TCL 20 Pro 5G, Vivo iQOO 7, Xiaomi’s Mi 11/11 Ultra/11i/11X Pro, and ZTE Axon 30 Ultra 5G. More devices from Realme and Sharp are also part of the program.
How to sign up for Android 12 beta
Signing up for the Android 12 beta varies depending on the device to be used. Unsurprisingly, the easiest process is available to Pixel phone owners. Proceed to the Android Beta Program page and sign in using a Google Account active on an eligible Pixel model. Then, press/click the Opt-In button at the bottom and read and accept the terms and conditions. Once these are completed, click Confirm and Enroll.
A notification to download and install the Android 12 beta should appear on the device soon. If this does not happen after a few minutes, try to scan for available updates by going to Settings > System > Advanced > System Update > Check for update. Once available, follow the usual process of installing OS updates.
The process is a little more complicated for other non-Google-eligible devices. But the steps to join Android 12 beta for every supported phone brand are detailed upon clicking the “Get the Beta” buttons from this page. Regardless of the device to be used, note that this is still a very early version of the OS update and there are several known issues to be experienced.
